THE HERMITAGE GARDEN OPENS NEW YEAR SEASON
New Year in the Hermitage Garden
The Hermitage Garden opens long-awaited New Year season. Celebratory events will start on December 26 and continue to delight all guests with extraordinary installations and performances until the end of January holidays.
From December 27 to 30, you will be able to meet New Year characters who linger in the garden until January 6. These days, everyone can take part in creating a unique Christmas art forest. On January 7, the Hermitage Garden invites everyone to celebrate Christmas and from January 8 to 10, you will be able to gain strength before the first working day of the New Year in warm and friendly atmosphere.
The New Year season starts with «Music and Lights» festival, which main theme is art. Guests will enjoy the beautiful play of the park musicians who will perform classical music in modern processing. A ballerina confined in a crystal snow globe will present a classic modernity dance and professional artists and acrobats will make a show with elements of optical illusions.
The main decoration of the Garden will be an unusual Christmas tree, made by a team of creative architects and designers. The tree will be painted in different colors and will get unexpected forms. In addition, throughout the New Year holidays, there will appear art objects that symbolize Christmas trees. Everyone will be able to create an unusual tree under the guidance of professionals. The tree will become a part of the Art Forest.
CHRISTMAS WINDOW PERFORMANCES IN «METROPOL»
The Metropol Hotel
In the evenings, panoramic windows of the Metropol Hotel will turn into a stage for short Christmas performances created by new generation of leading directors.
Vasiliy Barkhatov, Konstantin Bogomolov, Philip Grigoryan, Yuri Kwiatkowski and Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich will present a series of Christmas stories translated into the language of movements, facial expressions and gestures. Five-minute performances will move from one window to another.
Installation by artist Katia Bochavar will become decorations for the plays. The whole series of performances will take about half an hour and will be repeated several times during the evening and all passers-by will be able to see them.
The Metropol Hotel is located in the center of Moscow at the Theater Lane, 2. The hotel was has been built from 1899 to 1905 on the initiative of Russian businessperson and philantropist Savva Mamontov. George Bernard Shaw, Bertolt Brecht, Alexander Kuprin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Marlene Dietrich and Montserrat Caballe have been among the guests of the hotel.
«GREAT EXPECTATIONS» FINAL EXHIBITION

The Central Exhibition Hall Manege will present the final exhibition of the project in support of contemporary art «Great Expectations» from December 27, 2014 to January 18, 2015.
The exhibition of video works by young artists in the central area of Moscow – is an important event for the arts. The curator of the project Olga Shishko says that video art is a means of understanding the world, which helps you to ‘feel out’ the reality around, see what is available for your eyes and transform reality to your liking.
Young artists presented at «Great Expectations» explore various aspects of the viewer’s perception of the screen image. You will see visual hoax, interaction between film and video art, figurative language of new media, electronic technologies and experiments with possibilities of ever-changing visual language. The viewers will be able to read this new visual book and focus on the transformation of the linear spatial perception.
