THEREMIN CONCERT IN MAMM
pushkin.ziferblat.net
Theremin is a unique invention of Russian scientist Lev Thermen. One can elicit the sound from it without touching this electronic musical instrument – only with movements of hands in air near two antennas. Vladimir Lenin, Arturo Toskanini, Albert Enstein, Charlie Chaplin have tried to play a theremin. Shostakovich, Schnittke, Rybnikov, Kabalevsky and others have written music for the instrument. Theremin also sounds in Soviet and American cinema, creativity of Led Zeppelin, Sting, Pink Floyd, The Tiger Lilies, Beatles, Jeanne Michèle Jarre, etc.
Today theremin is almost forgotten, however Pyotr Thermen, a great-grandson of the instrument’s inventor, continues the work of his ancestor. Theremin concerts are given rare, so the one, held in MAMM, is a unique opportunity to listen to this unusual musical instrument. Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Bach and Glinka’s works are in program.
The concert will be held at 19.00 in Multimedia Arts Museum (Ostozhenka St., 16) on March 6. Tickets cost 300 rubles (€3.02).

The considerable part of the exposition is devoted to so-called Detroit baroque —cars of the 50-60th of the XX century. Visitors will also see cars on restoration (organizers call them ‘magnificent ruins’), rare modifications of tanks, real field radio stations, World War II military uniform, ancient automobile souvenirs and concept cars — design prototypes of future cars which don’t go to production. As always, it will be possible to make a free photograph and even sit in old-time cars.
EXHIBITION «VICTOR ALIMPIYEV. RADIANT»
Vinzavod Webpage
Exhibition of one of the most famous modern Russian artists Victor Alimpiyev opened in Regina Gallery. Alimpiyev is the participant of important international events, such as the 2nd and 5th Moscow biennale, the 4th Berlin biennale and the Venetian biennale in 2003 and 2013. Works of the artist are presented in large Russian and western collections, such as Tate Modern Gallery in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris, the State Center of the Modern Art and the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow and many others.
In the new series of works, Alimpiyev experiments with size of canvas and materials — for example, he applied paint to canvas by means of a transfer paper. His pictures remind water flows with blades-lines developing into something solemn and seductive. The present exhibition of ‘consistently empty works’, is devoted to portraits of the British opera and chamber singer Cathleen Ferrier, who lived in the middle of the XX century.
The exhibition will last until April 3 in Regina Gallery (Center for Contemporary Art Vinzavod, 4th Syromyatnichesky Lane, 1, build. 6). Entrance is free.
