The exhibition 100 Years of Fashion in Russia: 1915-2015. Alexander Vasilyev’s Collection opens on November 6 in the pavilion #64 at VDNKh. It is a large-scale retrospective of women’s and men’s clothing and accessories, which clearly demonstrate the changes in Russian fashion from 1915 to 2015.
It is difficult to name another country where during the last 100 years there were so many social upheavals and changes. Russian history is bright and controversial, with two revolutions, in 1905 and 1917, two world wars, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the events of the next years make. These social changes were accompanied by the changes in household structure, and in fashion, because fashion is the mirror of history. The exhibition 100 Years of Fashion in Russia: 1915-2015 shows how fashion changed during the period, not so extended in terms of history, but rich in events of historical importance.
100 specially manufactured dummies will present a variety of patterns for men and women over the past 100 years. The exhibition will demonstrate the breadth and diversity of Alexander Vasilyev’’s collection. Visitors will see clothing of prerevolutionary years with its simplistic cut and style emansipe. Short dresses with low waist were the calling card of the NEP. The exhibition wlil also include dresses in the style of Soviet film stars of 30s, the postwar dresses and masterpieces of ODMO on Kuznetsky Most, form-fitting dresses with a petticoat in the spirit of the new look of the 50s, business fashion of the 80s as well as luxury of dashing the 90s.
