The Annual Non-profit International Festival Midsummer Night’s Dream (MSND) will be held on July 18, 2015. This time, a grand costume ball will pass at a new location – in the green area of the city park between VDNKh and the Botanical Garden.
The festival’s theme THE TOMORROW THAT NEVER WAS is largely dictated by the new venue, which offers views of the futuristic architectural complex of the Exhibition Center that embodies the utopian idea of Soviet Architects of a bright future.
The festival will take place in the abandoned house near the pond, from which the history of VDNKh started. The interiors of the building remained intact. The seven-meter mirrors, original moldings and site-specific art installation will serve as backdrop for the most awaited summer holiday.
MSND-2015 will be the epitome of retro-futurism ideas: the future seen from the past and the past seen from the future.
The concept of retro-futurism allows the participants to reflect on how we see the future, and to realize the most daring creative ideas when choosing a costume. The traditional term of participation in the festival is a strict dress code. Inspiration for creating the costumes can be found in the best examples of Soviet science fiction, sci-fi cinema and aesthetics of Retrofuture.
The program of events, prepared by director Ju Montvilaite and artist Margot Trushina, includes light installations, theatrical shows, musical performances and dancing until dawn.
Performance on the water – the Intergalactic portal Golden Colossus, which allows to travel in time and to find oneself in Futuropolis – City of the Future will become the culmination of the program.
The official partner of the event – car brand KIA – will present art objects, decorated in the style of retro futurism: decorated with fluorescent light, reflective colors cars will move around the site as moving scenery and become a part of the mainstream performance.
Celebrities, society and media persons, representatives of creative industries from all over the world traditionally become guests of the festival.
The food court zone will be presented by Novikov Group with festival menu by FARSH, restaurant Altitude 5642 and the Asian gastronomic pub Roni. LETTO restaurant will also treat the guests at the other side of the pond that guests will reach by boats.
Strict adherence to the dress code is a necessary condition for participation. Costumes create and maintain the unique spirit of the event. In addition, recommendation by two festival friends of the MSND community is necessary.
