GEEK PICNIC, Europe’s largest festival of science, technology and art will be held in Moscow on June 13-14 in the Krasnaya Presnya Park.
GEEK PICNIC Festival is a cult event for everyone interested in art, technology and science. The creators of the picnic will gather the most interesting and unusual technological artifacts, as well as Russian and world experts at one platform.
Numerous lectures, master classes and shows await visitors at the picnic. Therefore, here is the list of the most interesting events of the festival.
The most prominent exhibit of the park will be a Robohand – an ‘iron’ hand, which is more than 30 times larger than a normal human hand, and weight about 6 tons. Due to the hydraulic drive mechanism, giant structure can easily pick up the car or any other heavy object.
At the Park robots and 3D printing, you will also see the latest achievements of robotics, as well as giant 3D printers. For example, a real robot-fish will float in a huge aquarium and robotic footballers will play nearby. For those who are hungry, robot chefs will prepare delicious pancakes and a sociable robot waiter will bring you a cup of coffee.
FIRST CONFERENCE OF CYBORG PEOPLE
GEEK PICNIC and GEEKSPUTNIK.TV will co-host the first international conference of cyborgs at the festival. People with bionic prostheses, enthusiasts that modify their bodies with the help of technology, as well as representatives of the scientific community will discuss the boundaries of human capabilities and practical, ethical and philosophical aspects of cyborgization.
The round table will gather representatives of the avant-garde cyborg movement: biohacker Rich Lee with implanted headphones; Nigel Ackland with a bionic prosthetic arm, which is controlled by sensors sewn into his muscles, James Barnes – a musician with hand-drumsticks; actress with a bionic arm Angel Giuffria and a scientist Nicolas Hushe with multi-finger prosthesis.
UNIQUE 3D-PRINTED MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS SHOW
Musical instruments, printed with a 3D-printer will come to the picnic from the sunny Miami Monad Studio. Unusual violin, cello, guitar and didgeridoo can be seen at the exhibition tent in the Art area. You will also hear the sound of these wonderful instruments at the main stage.
A live orchestra «Casta Diva» will accompany the large-scale Tesla Show. Visitors will need to wait the evening to see the show in full details.
The Technology area will host master classes by the community of independent developers MediaTek Labs for everyone who dream of creating their own gadget. Visitors will also see their best developments: a portable weather station, homemade wine cooking device, a large-scale copy of the Curiosity rover and other unique items.
SOMNIATOR BY SASHA FROLOVA
SOMNIATOR (from the Latin Somniatis – dreaming) –a latex installation of a 3 meters height and 6 meters length – is a fantastic device to enhance the power of miracles. You can lie down and dream about something, think of your heart’s desire by embedding your head in a special cushion and the unit will enhance your wish fulfillment. It is a fantasy on how a dream-embodying machine would look like.
HYDE PARK – LIQUID DANCE
The project by Dutch artist Kamiel Rongen represents a spectacular audio-visual image, where the author was able to capture and transmit the real ‘dance of liquids’. The video has no computer editing and special effects – all the ‘dancing’ was filmed in the usual aquarium. The author will not only show his work, but also share the secrets of its creation during a lecture at the festival.
Cool and spectacular Multicopter Championship will be held at the festival. The real geeks will chose the best multicopter. In addition, there will be the first Drone Race.

You will be able to attend more than 100 lectures and seminars by the world and Russian scientists and experts from the world of technology, artists, as well as an outdoor area to make presentations.
In addition to lectures and roundtables, every visitor of the GEEK PICNIC will be able to find something interesting and spend a weekend outdoors with friends or family in the atmosphere of future technologies.
