Guardian Cities comes to Moscow. On 8 June, it will start a weeklong special focusing on the Moscow Experiment. The city is transforming at great speed. From Gorky Park to burgeoning creative industries, rapid gentrification to improvements in cycling, a food revolution, Moscow City, new World Cup infrastructure and more, the fabric of the city is being reworked. But how much has life really changed for Muscovites? Has the transformation benefited everyone? And what of the future – have we seen the end of this ‘Moscow experiment’?
These questions will be asked at a public debate at The Strelka Institute. Hosted by the Guardian’s Moscow correspondent, Shaun Walker, with top experts from Strelka and the frontlines of the Moscow experiment, it will be possible to get under the city’s shiny new skin and discuss what’s really going on underneath.
The debate will take place on June 8, at 12:00.
