Killer whales that will inhabit the aquarium at VDNKh have been already kept in tanks for 10 months.
Huge rusty tanks, covered by air-inflated hangar, appeared at VDNKh 10 months ago. In September, it was reported that the whales, which would settle in a newly built aquarium in 2015, were in the Far East and would be brought to Moscow before opening. The press service of VDNKh announced that hangar was a temporary building that served just for engineering needs. However, animal rightists found the killer whales in the fuel tanks of the pavilion «Electrification», but Moscow police declined to bring criminal proceedings for unethical animal welfare.
President of the animal rightist fund «Vita» Irina Novozhilova gave the police a statement about unethical animal welfare on September 30. The police checked the hangar and really found the whales, but stated that they are under strict veterinary control of seven veterinarians and five coaches and appropriate conditions of detention. Therefore, criminal proceedings has been refused.
Killer Whale is a large animal; it needs constant movement, because it lives in the open ocean and is very social. Animal rightists consider keeping these animals in such conditions a crime.
