Circus inspired avant-garde artists of the early XX century. The spirit of freedom and heroism, romantic scenes – circus became inspiration for many painters who saw it as a truly popular art.
A large-scale exhibition project comprises the Russian art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Works by Alexander Rodchenko , Alexandra Exter , Vladimir Sterligov , Marc Chagall , Oleg Kulik , Leonid Tishkov , Olga and other Tobreluts are exhibited next to authentic circus props, costume designs, documentary photographs and videos.
The exhibition runs in Moscow Museum of Modern Art on Petrovka Street from February 21 to April 6.
