Pioneer Cinema holds A Perfect Murder weekend and shows two thrillers by Alfred Hitchcock – Strangers on a Train and Rope within a cycle At Cinema. At Last.
Strangers on a Train (1951) is based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel about sophisticated transaction between two Americans. One wants to kill his father, the other is thinking to get rid of his wife. In order to provide an alibi for each other and remain uncaught, the heroes decide to share their crimes – commit the perfect crisscross murder. Strangers on a Train is Hitchcock’s masterpiece – intelligent black and white noir film about a murder as a game people play that is beyond good and evil.
Rope (1948) is one of the most conceptual and provocative Hitchcock’s films. Its action takes place in real time (revolutionary device for that time) in a penthouse in Manhattan. There, two young dandies throw a posh party on the occasion of their friend’s murder. The movie shows a murder, not caused by money, but by boredom or just for fun. Based on a true story and dedicated to crime as a form of entertainment, the picture caused a scandal and was even banned in several countries.
Movies will be shown in English with Russian subtitling.
Every month during one weekend, guests of the Pioneer Cinema can watch a selection of the classical pictures united by the general subject, style or a name of the director within the cycle At Cinema. At Last. These movies have not been released in Russian movie rental before. However, it is never late to see them on the big screen for the first time or to rediscover these familiar pictures.
